The Southern Transitional Council-General Directorate of Foreign Affairs in USA & Canada

Issues a statement on the deterioration of the human situation in Aden

For the last four years, we’ve seen the same names takings official positions in the Yemeni government. After numerous popular demonstrations, Aden continues to be the theater of governmental intentional acts of corruption, neglect, and looting.

Few days ago, we’ve witnessed an unfortunate incident when a 4 years old child and two youth lost their lives in Aden due to the destroyed infrastructure in the city.

This incident is one in a series of incidents by which the government wanted to punish the southern people who continues to demand their political legitimate rights.

The government must be held accountable for committing this crime which is a normal course of action if similar incident took place in other countries where governments show respect for their responsibilities towards their people as well as towards the international human community.

The government’s negligence and indifference to many similar tragic events, and its disrespect of the people’s inspirations continue despite our frequent warnings.

Such attitude from the government increases the misery of our people in the south on a daily basis; due to corruption, total absence of basic services, and the culture of favoritism.

We in the Office of General Directorate of Foreign Affairs in USA & Canada follow closely the people’s uprising in Aden and other southern cities in which demonstrators raised their demands for the government’s resignation for its failure to provide access to simple services due to its spreading corruption and the incompetence of its officials in the absence of any form of accountability or corrective measures from the state’s presidency.

We express our commitment to our people in the South of Yemen to make their voice heard in the decision making circles, both executive and legislative, legal and human rights organizations, as well as the significant international missions which are concerned with Yemen’s issues, for providing urgent solution to the deteriorated human conditions in Aden and other southern cities. Such action can begin with forcing the resignation of the government, and keeping its hands off the southern cities which battled and defeated the Iranian project and prevented terrorism from expanding and filling the vacuum.

We vow to exert every effort to make the people’s legitimate demands a living reality, including finding solutions to the deteriorated human conditions and providing people with their political and human rights, and importantly their rights for self-determination, freedom and independence as well as living with dignity in a free and independent country in which 21st century basic human services and rights are provided such as electricity, clean water, health care and free and dignified living.
